The Hotel Radnor
The beautiful old Hotel was built around 1908 - 1912 and initially named 'The Grand'. We think the hotel took a few years to build as we have found photos in the State Library of Queensland dating from 1908. Queensland Places states that' 'by 1910 there were over 300 people in Blackbutt who, along with employees in outlying timber settlements, supported five hotels.' (2013)

According to stories the hotel was renamed 'Hotel Radnor' after the owner's dog that was killed in 1935. We are going to do more research when time permits to verify this story. To see more historic photos go to the gallery page.

The town of Blackbutt, Queensland
According to Wikipedia 'European settlement in the Blackbutt area began in 1842, when the Scott family established Taromeo station. In 1887, the Scott family ceded land to found both Blackbutt and its neighbouring town of Benarkin. Blackbutt is named for the blackbutt trees (Eucalyptus pilularis) native to the area. Farms were established in the area and the discovery of gold in the area in the late 19th century led to population growth in the town. Blackbutt was connected to the Brisbane Valley rail line in 1905. The line was closed in the 1980s and is now a popular rail trail.' wikipedia 2013
